Vance stated the US red lines regarding Iran and allowed for a forceful scenario
US Vice President Jay D. Vance said in an interview with Fox News that preventing the spread of nuclear weapons in the Middle East is a priority for the United States. According to him, if Iran obtains nuclear weapons, it will provoke a number of other regimes to also seek nuclear arsenals.
Vance stressed that Washington has clearly defined red lines. The main interest of the United States is to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He emphasised that nuclear proliferation in the region would pose a serious threat to global security.
Commenting on the indirect talks between American and Iranian representatives that took place on Tuesday in Geneva, the Vice President noted that the dialogue was successful in certain aspects and that the parties agreed to continue contacts. At the same time, he noted that Tehran is not yet ready to recognise and work through several fundamental positions outlined by President Donald Trump.
According to Vance, the president has a wide range of tools at his disposal. He stressed that the US has powerful armed forces and a strong diplomatic team, and Trump has already demonstrated his willingness to use both approaches. At the same time, the head of state reserves the right to determine when diplomacy has reached its limits.
The Vice President expressed hope that force would not be used, but stressed that the final decision in the event of a deadlock would be up to the US President.
