Steve Witkoff announced a meeting with Rustem Umerov in Geneva
During an online meeting of the Young Entrepreneurs Forum on 24 February, Steve Witkoff stated that he would arrive in Geneva with Jared Kushner on Thursday, with the flight scheduled for Wednesday evening. According to him, the main purpose of the trip is to meet with the Iranian side to seek a diplomatic solution to the situation.
At the same time, he noted that he communicates with Rustem Umerov almost daily and asked him for permission from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to hold a meeting in Geneva. After that, according to Witkoff, Umerov may visit the United States, but first the parties will meet in Switzerland.
The special envoy also suggested that a trilateral meeting between delegations from Ukraine, Russia and the United States could take place within the next 10 days.
Vitkoff expressed his conviction that a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia is possible, during which issues of territory and security guarantees could be discussed. According to him, some of the issues are being attempted to be resolved before the talks at the leadership level, while the issue of territory requires additional work and consideration of various approaches.
On 20 February, Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stated that a new round of negotiations could take place within 10 days.
