Weather in Ukraine on 20 July 2026: downpours, hail and squalls

Where heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected
Cloudy weather with sunny spells is forecast across Ukraine. Rain is expected in most regions, except for the eastern and south-eastern regions.
In the northern and central regions, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in places. During the day, hail and squalls with wind speeds of 15–20 m/s are possible in some areas.
South-westerly winds will reach 7–12 m/s, veering westwards in places.
Yellow danger level on 20 July
The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre has issued a Level I hazard warning due to thunderstorms in most regions of Ukraine. The warning does not apply to the east and south-east of the country, nor, during the day, to most of the western regions.
In the northern, central, Odesa and Mykolaiv regions, hail and squalls with wind speeds of 15–20 m/s are possible during the day.
A yellow alert means that weather conditions are potentially dangerous for people, infrastructure and the environment. The bad weather may disrupt the operations of energy, construction and utility companies, as well as affect road traffic.
What will the temperature be on 20 July?
Despite the rain, warm weather will persist in most regions. Overnight temperatures will range from 16–21°, whilst daytime temperatures will reach 25–30°.
It will be coolest in the western regions, where daytime temperatures are forecast to be 22–27°. In the south and east of Ukraine, temperatures will rise to 33°.
Weather in Kyiv and the Kyiv region
Thunderstorms are expected in Kyiv and the Kyiv region throughout the day. A Level I (yellow) hazard warning will also be in force in the region.
Moderate rain is expected across the Kyiv region, with heavy rainfall possible in places overnight. During the day, hail and squalls with wind speeds of 15–20 m/s are forecast in some parts of the region.
Temperatures in the Kyiv region will range from 16–21° at night and 25–30° during the day. The wind will be south-westerly at 7–12 m/s.
Kyiv will see a brief shower accompanied by a thunderstorm. Overnight, the air will warm up to 19–21°, whilst daytime temperatures will reach 27–29°.
