Investigative activities at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Station: Energoatom explains what is happening
The company emphasised that the investigation is not affecting production processes or the safe operation of the facility.
On 25 June, law enforcement officers are carrying out investigative activities at the Khmelnytskyi NPP site in connection with certain procurement contracts from previous years. Energoatom has stated that this does not affect the plant’s operations or the safety of the power units.

This was reported by Energoatom.

According to Energoatom, the investigations are being carried out by the relevant law enforcement agencies.

The company stated that these relate to specific procurement procedures carried out in previous years.

Energoatom has stated that it is cooperating with the law enforcement agencies and providing the necessary documents and information in accordance with the law.

Are the investigations affecting the plant’s operations?

The company emphasised that the investigations do not affect production processes or the safe operation of the facility.

According to Energoatom, the Khmelnytskyi NPP is operating as normal, ensuring the safe operation of its power units and stable electricity generation.

For electricity consumers, this means that operations at the Khmelnytskyi NPP have not been suspended, and that the investigative actions in question do not relate to the plant’s current safety but to procurement activities from previous years.

At the same time, the very fact that an investigation is underway indicates that law enforcement agencies are scrutinising specific decisions or procedures relating to procurement. The statement makes no mention of any suspicions or specific violations.

The Khmelnytskyi NPP is one of the key facilities in Ukraine’s nuclear energy sector. During the war, the stable operation of nuclear power stations is of particular importance to the power system, as nuclear generation provides a significant proportion of Ukraine’s electricity.

Ukraine received high marks in the OECD’s 2026 Review of Anti-Corruption and Integrity. However, a score of 100% does not mean that there is no corruption in the country: the OECD assesses, first and foremost, the quality of the rules, institutions and mechanisms for their implementation.
