Zaluzhny’s office has denied reports of political agreements with Zelenskyy
This was reported by Valeriy Zaluzhny’s media adviser, Oksana Torop, in a comment to NV.
Oksana Torop confirmed that Valerii Zaluzhnyi had recently been in Kyiv and met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to her, during the meeting they discussed cooperation between Ukraine and the UK, the political situation in the United Kingdom following the change of prime minister, as well as further steps to strengthen international support for Ukraine.
According to Torop, Zaluzhny discussed the same issues with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council.
“There are no political decisions or agreements, as reported by the media. Valerii Zaluzhnyi continues to serve as Ukraine’s Ambassador to the UK,” she stated.
Where did the information about possible agreements come from?
On 23 June, former BBC News journalist Daniel Pratt, citing his own sources, claimed that Volodymyr Zelenskyy had allegedly decided to stand for a second presidential term.
He also claimed that the Office of the President was reportedly counting on a political alliance with Valerii Zaluzhnyi. According to him, the initial details of a possible alliance may have been discussed during Rustem Umerov’s visit to London.
Following this, the information was reported by a number of Ukrainian media outlets.
A statement from Valeriy Zaluzhny’s team refutes the reports of any political agreements with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
At the same time, claims regarding preparations for the elections and a possible political alliance remain statements from individual sources that have not been officially confirmed.
Under martial law, Ukrainian legislation does not provide for the holding of presidential elections. That is why any reports of possible election campaigns or political alliances require official confirmation.
