Zelensky and Macron discussed strengthening Ukraine's air defence and energy security
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which the parties agreed on further steps to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities and energy security. Zelensky announced this on 28 January in his Telegram channel.
According to the head of state, Ukraine will soon receive additional generators from France to support its energy system. In addition, new deliveries of French aircraft, missiles for air defence systems and aerial bombs are expected throughout the year. Zelenskyy also informed his French counterpart about the situation on the front line and the losses of Russian troops.
The President of Ukraine thanked Macron for his support and sympathy in connection with Russian strikes on the civilian population, in particular the shelling of a passenger train in the Kharkiv region. During the conversation, special attention was paid to diplomatic work, including the meetings that took place in Abu Dhabi and possible future contacts.
The parties also discussed countering the Russian shadow fleet. Zelensky noted that France is working on this issue at the legislative level, and Ukraine is counting on important decisions in this direction.
In turn, Emmanuel Macron wrote on social media after the conversation that France and its partners are mobilised to help Ukraine in the energy sector. He recalled that following the G7+ meeting, co-chaired by France, generators will be sent to Ukraine to help the population survive the winter.
Macron strongly condemned Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure and stressed that Ukraine can count on France's support within the Coalition of the Willing. He also emphasised the importance of involving European countries in negotiations to establish a just and lasting peace that will guarantee the security of Ukraine and all of Europe.
