10 березня: яке сьогодні свято, прикмети та заборони дня
10 March is a special day for Ukraine, as it is when the memory of Taras Shevchenko is honoured. It was on 10 March 1861 that the outstanding poet, artist and thinker, considered the spiritual symbol of the Ukrainian people, died.
In honour of this date, literary evenings, exhibitions, themed events and poetry reading competitions are held in Ukraine. Ukrainians remember Shevchenko's work and his role in shaping national consciousness.
Taras Shevchenko is one of the founders of modern Ukrainian literature. His collection Kobzar became a landmark work that established the Ukrainian language in literature and significantly influenced the development of culture.
Another important event is the Day of the National Anthem of Ukraine. It was on 10 March 1865 in Przemyśl, Poland, that the song "Ukraine has not yet died, nor has its glory and freedom" was performed publicly for the first time. The lyrics were written by the poet Pavlo Chubynsky, and the music was composed by the composer and priest Mykhailo Verbytsky.
After Ukraine declared independence in 1991, the composition was approved as the national anthem. The final version of the first verse and chorus was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 2003.
