A complete calendar of name days for July 2026: all name days
A name day is not just a date on the calendar, but also an opportunity to remember one’s heavenly patron, visit a church, pray and give thanks for spiritual support.
A complete calendar of name days for July 2026 will help ensure you don’t miss the name days of your family and friends following the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s switch to the New Julian calendar. In July, many familiar dates have changed, so some of the most popular names are celebrated earlier than under the old calendar.

Following the Orthodox Church of Ukraine’s switch to the New Julian calendar, all fixed church feast days have been shifted by 13 days. Consequently, the dates commemorating the saints have changed, and with them, name days.

For example, whereas the Apostles Peter and Paul were previously commemorated on 12 July, their feast day now falls on 29 June. This is why many name days traditionally celebrated in July are now observed much earlier.

At the same time, under the new calendar, many saints are commemorated in July whose feast days previously fell in early August.

Despite the change in dates, the spiritual significance of the feast remains unchanged. A name day is a day of remembrance for a person’s patron saint. In the church tradition, it is customary on this day to pray to one’s heavenly intercessor, to give thanks for their help and to ask for their blessing.

Who will be most frequently congratulated in July

Among the summer name days, there are several dates that traditionally remain the most popular among Ukrainians.

11 July is the name day for Olga and Olena. It is on this day, according to the new calendar, that Saint Olga, Equal-to-the-Apostles, is honoured. Before the calendar reform, her feast day fell on 24 July.

On 14 and 15 July, those named Volodymyr celebrate their name days. Saint Volodymyr, Equal-to-the-Apostles, the baptiser of Rus’, is one of the most revered saints in Ukrainian tradition. Previously, his feast day was observed on 28 July.

On 20 July, those named Ilya celebrate their name day. The well-known Ilya’s Day has also been brought forward by 13 days. In folk tradition, this day was associated with the end of the height of summer and the start of gradual preparations for autumn.

On 25 July, those named Anna celebrate their name day. On this day, the Church honours Saint Anne — the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Before the switch to the New Julian calendar, her feast day was observed on 7 August.

Why a name day remains a special celebration

A name day is not just a date on the calendar, but also an opportunity to remember one’s heavenly patron, visit a church, pray and give thanks for spiritual support.

At the same time, for many Ukrainians, it is also a cherished family tradition. Even a brief greeting or a few warm words can be a lovely gesture towards a loved one and remind them of their own heavenly patron.
