A massive explosion has occurred near Belgorod, with detonations at an ammunition depot (VIDEO)
On 8 June, a powerful explosion occurred in Russia’s Belgorod Oblast, after which a large plume of smoke rose above the outskirts of the regional capital, visible from various parts of the city.
Local social media accounts report that thick black smoke is rising above a wooded area near the settlement of Novosadovy and the village of Belovskoye. Ammunition depots are located in this area.
Photos and videos posted online show at least four separate plumes of thick black smoke over the Belgorod region.
Telegram channels claim that the incident is not linked to the dropping of a Russian FAB aerial bomb. According to them, the explosion was caused by damage to ammunition depots, where secondary detonations are ongoing.
Local authorities have not released any official information regarding the cause of the explosion or the extent of the damage.
Ukrainian OSINT channels note that there is currently no confirmed information regarding the use of missiles or drones. Analysts have highlighted the absence of video footage of the moment of the explosion near the site, which may indicate that the epicentre was located in an area closed to unauthorised access.
The explosion may have occurred in the Belovsky Forest area; this territory was a civilian green zone, but the Russian military subsequently established a restricted-access facility there with concealed infrastructure.
