A new heatwave is set to hit Europe: temperatures of up to 45 degrees are forecast in some countries
This has been reported by Onet and Polskie Radio.
A severe heatwave is set to intensify towards the end of the week.
The highest temperatures are forecast for Western European countries. From Monday to Wednesday, temperatures in the southern regions of Spain, Portugal and France could reach 43–45 degrees. (onet.pl)
Particularly high temperatures are expected in the Spanish region of Andalusia.
Which cities will be affected by the heat?
Temperatures of around 40 degrees are expected in Madrid and Paris.
Temperatures of over 35 degrees are forecast for Rome, Vienna and Budapest.
The hot weather will also temporarily reach the south of the UK, including London.
How long will the heatwave last?
According to preliminary estimates, the heatwave in Mediterranean countries could last until the end of June.
In some areas, high temperatures may persist for even longer.
Meteorologists warn that in some places, temperatures will be around 20 degrees higher than the average for this time of year.
What is a heat dome?
Forecasters attribute the sharp rise in temperatures to what is known as a heat dome.
This phenomenon occurs when a powerful high-pressure system traps hot air over a large area.
As a result, heat builds up, cloud cover decreases, and temperatures can rise for several days or even weeks.
Are temperature records possible?
Meteorological models suggest that certain parts of Spain and France could see temperatures approaching some of the highest June readings on record.
Forecasters note that the final figures may still be subject to change, but the forecast already points to a very intense heatwave in the western part of the continent.
Why this matters
Extreme heat poses risks to human health, energy systems and water resources.
The most vulnerable during such heatwaves are the elderly, children, people with chronic illnesses and residents of large cities, where temperatures are felt more intensely due to dense urban development.
