A protest against labour migration took place in Kyiv

Protesters called for support for Ukrainian workers
The rally was prompted by discussions surrounding the possible recruitment of foreign workers to address the labour shortage in the Ukrainian labour market. In recent weeks, reports of the alleged mass recruitment of workers from Asian countries have been widely circulated in the media. At the same time, no official decisions regarding the implementation of such large-scale programmes at the state level have yet been made public.
Against the backdrop of these discussions, the protesters stated that, in the context of the war, priority must remain on employing Ukrainian citizens, particularly veterans, internally displaced persons and Ukrainians returning from abroad. They also emphasised the need to address the labour shortage by creating decent working conditions and increasing wages. During the rally, participants held placards and chanted slogans such as ‘Ukraine for Ukrainians’, ‘No to the Trojan cow’ and ‘Jobs for Ukrainians, not migrants’. The organisers and participants of the event expressed concern about a possible increase in the number of foreign workers in the Ukrainian labour market and called on the authorities to focus on supporting the national workforce.
