A tank monument has been stolen from a mass grave in the Kharkiv region
This was reported by Suspilne Kharkiv.
The monument was taken away during the night
According to Hennadiy Zagoruyko, head of the Oskil Rural Military Administration, this was not a case of the memorial being dismantled, but rather of it being stolen. The tank had been erected in the village’s central cemetery above the grave of the crew who died during the liberation of Oskil.
The official noted that the tank was taken away at night, whilst a curfew was in force in the region. The police have already been notified of the incident. An investigative team is working at the scene to establish the full circumstances surrounding the monument’s disappearance.
Graves damaged
Local residents report that at least 12 gravestones in the cemetery were damaged whilst the tank was being removed. After residents noticed the monument had disappeared, they contacted local authorities and the police. The police are documenting the aftermath of the incident and conducting an investigation.
The village is under constant shelling
Oskil is situated close to the front line and is regularly subjected to Russian shelling. According to DeepState, as of 11 July, the distance to the front line was less than 20 kilometres.
According to local authorities, around 40 per cent of the community’s territory has already been destroyed as a result of Russian attacks. Whilst around five thousand people lived in Oskil, Yaremivka and Studenka before the full-scale invasion began, only a few hundred residents remain there now.
