A widespread power cut occurred in Sevastopol following a night-time attack
In the temporarily occupied city of Sevastopol, on the night of 24 June, the electricity supply was completely cut off following an attack on the energy infrastructure.
Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-appointed ‘governor’ of occupied Sevastopol, stated that a special regime had been introduced at the targeted facilities. According to him, specialists are assessing the extent of the damage and working to restore the electricity supply.
Due to the power cut, no trolleybuses were running in the city this morning. Nurseries have switched to special operating arrangements, and parents have been asked to keep their children at home where possible.
According to the Telegram channel “Krymsky Veter”, at least three strikes were recorded at Sevastopol’s main substation. A major fire subsequently broke out at the site, and thick black smoke rose above the city.
It is noted that the 330/220/110/35 kV “Sevastopol” substation, which supplies the entire Sevastopol power district, is a key energy hub for the city.
There were also reports of strikes on the Balaklava Thermal Power Station. According to local sources, residents heard six or seven explosions in the vicinity of the power station.
Apart from Sevastopol, explosions were heard overnight in Bakhchisaray, Kerch and in the area around Mount Ai-Petri. In Bakhchisaray, according to ‘Krymskyi Veter’, a fire broke out at the warehouses of the 133rd Separate Logistics Brigade of the Russian Federation’s Black Sea Fleet.
The day before, rolling blackouts had already been introduced in occupied Crimea due to damage to power grids in several energy districts across the peninsula.
