A woman was killed and two people were injured in Kyiv following a night-time rocket attack
On the night of 8 July, a Russian missile attack caused fires in the Sviatoshynskyi and Desnianskyi districts of Kyiv. Initial reports indicated that two people had been injured.
In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a fire broke out in an administrative building and some storage facilities. Two people were injured, one of whom was hospitalised. At another address, a garage co-operative caught fire; the blaze was extinguished. An administrative building and trams were also damaged as a result of the shelling.
In the Desnianskyi district, a fire broke out in some storage facilities. Rescue workers and other emergency services were working at the scenes.
As of 08:30, rescue workers were continuing to extinguish fires at two locations in the Sviatoshyn and Desnianskyi districts. The body of a woman was discovered whilst firefighters were extinguishing a blaze at one of the sites in the Sviatoshyn district.
Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that one woman had been killed and two other people injured as a result of the attack.
Later, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that all fires caused by the night-time shelling had been extinguished. Administrative buildings and warehouses were on fire in the Sviatoshyn and Desnianskyi districts. Work is currently underway to dismantle and douse the structures of the damaged buildings.
The Kyiv City State Administration also reported that 42 PESA tram carriages were damaged in one of the tram depots as a result of the attack. A working group comprising specialists from all the capital’s depots has been set up to restore the rolling stock. According to preliminary estimates, repairs will take around a week.
Whilst restoration work is underway, tram routes are being served by buses No. 1T and No. 3T.
