On 19 June, in Boryspil, Kyiv Oblast, two Cane Corso dogs attacked an elderly woman in her own garden. The victim was taken to hospital, but the doctors were unable to save her life

This was reported by the Kyiv Regional Police.

What is known about the dog attack in Boryspil

According to preliminary information from the police, the tragedy occurred after two Cane Corso dogs ran out of a neighbouring property.

The animals ran into the garden where a 79-year-old local woman was staying and attacked her. The woman sustained serious injuries.

The victim was taken to hospital, but despite the efforts of the medical staff, she died from her injuries.

What the dog owner faces

Law enforcement officers detained the owner of the animals in accordance with legal procedure.

Investigators, under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 119 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — manslaughter through negligence.

The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment for a term of between three and five years.

Initial investigative measures are currently underway. Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the tragedy and checking whether the rules for keeping large dogs were observed.

The investigation must also determine whether the owner took sufficient measures to prevent the animals from leaving the grounds of her private property.
