What is known about James Burroughs’ death
According to his loved ones, the director passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Burrows is survived by his wife Debbie Easton, three daughters from his first marriage to Linda Solomon, a stepdaughter and seven grandchildren.
“For over five decades, he was one of the most influential and beloved directors in the history of television. As a legendary director, mentor and creative force, he helped shape a generation of television comedy and brought joy to audiences around the world,” the family said.
What is James Burrows known for?
James Burrows was born in 1940 in Los Angeles. His father, Abe Burrows, was a well-known writer, playwright and composer.
As a child, the future director moved with his family to New York, where he attended an arts school. He later graduated from Oberlin College and trained as a director at the Yale School of Drama.
Burroughs began his career in theatre as an assistant director, but later moved into television.
The real breakthrough in his career came after working on the sitcom *Cheers*, which brought him widespread recognition.
He went on to work on dozens of well-known television projects, including *Friends*, *Frasier*, *Will & Grace*, *Taxi* and *The Big Bang Theory*.
Over the course of his career, James Burrows directed over 1,000 television episodes and became one of the directors who shaped the face of modern television comedy.
He received 46 Emmy nominations and won the award 11 times. In 2014, Burrows was also honoured with an award from the Directors Guild of America for his contribution to the development of television.
