Actress Lyudmila Chursina, who supported Russia’s war, has died
Soviet and Russian actress Lyudmila Chursina died on 10 June at the age of 84.
The date and venue of the funeral will be announced later.
Chursina was a People’s Artist of the USSR. She had been with the Soviet Army Theatre, which has been known as the Russian Army Theatre since 1993, since 1984.
What Lyudmila Chursina is known for
Lyudmila Chursina played dozens of roles in films.
Among her most famous works are:
- “The Don Story”;
- “The Ugryum River”;
- “Virineya”;
- “The Little Crane”;
- “The Shield and the Sword”;
- “Lyubov Yarova”.
In 1968, Chursina was awarded the RSFSR State Prize for her roles in “The Ugryum River”, “Virineya” and “The Little Crane”.
Her role in “The Little Crane” was also recognised with an award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
Position on Ukraine
In 2014, Lyudmila Chursina supported the annexation of Crimea.
In 2022, she also supported the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops.
Chursina’s signature appeared on a letter against Academician Andrei Sakharov, entitled “A Position Alien to the People”, which was published by the newspaper Pravda in 1973.
However, the actress later claimed that her signature had been added without her knowledge.
