The Defence Procurement Agency is to undergo a NATO audit: what does this mean?
The Defence Procurement Agency is to undergo a functional audit by the NATO International Board of Auditors.
This was announced by Taras Chmut, a member of the Agency’s supervisory board.
The audit will take place in several stages and will cover all key processes — from procurement planning and contract conclusion to performance management and internal control.
The initiative will be funded under NATO projects aimed at enhancing the integrity and effectiveness of defence institutions.
Defence Procurement Agency: what is known
The Defence Procurement Agency was established in July 2022, modelled on NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency. Its mission is to make arms procurement for Ukraine transparent and to prevent corruption.
Since January 2024, the agency has been headed by Maryna Bezrukova, and the supervisory board recommended that the Ministry of Defence extend her contract. However, the Ministry of Defence decided not to extend the contract.
On 31 January, the Ministry of Defence announced that from 1 February, Arsen Zhumadilov would head the Defence Procurement Agency in place of Marina Bezrukova. In March, he officially became director of the DPA.
