In total, Bulgaria has provided Ukraine with 13 military aid packages since the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. The latest military aid package was approved by the Bulgarian Council of Ministers on 12 February 2026.
Details regarding the type, volume, and cost of the aid provided remain classified. The Bulgarian Ministry of Defence explained that this information is part of reports on the structure, armament, and capabilities of the Bulgarian Armed Forces and is therefore not subject to public disclosure.
Military aid to Ukraine is provided in accordance with an agreement between the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, signed on 5 December 2022. The document provides for the free transfer of weapons, military equipment and ammunition and was ratified by the Bulgarian Parliament on 16 December 2022.
Following the decisions of the Bulgarian Parliament, armoured vehicles were transferred to Ukraine along with available weapons, as well as faulty or surplus portable anti-aircraft missile systems and missiles for them to strengthen air defence.
At the end of 2024, the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence confirmed that Bulgarian-made Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems were being used in Ukraine.
In addition to weapons and equipment, Bulgaria has provided Ukraine with personal protective equipment, including helmets, body armour, medical kits, winter clothing and footwear. The country has also provided support to Ukrainian citizens residing on its territory through humanitarian programmes.
According to the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence, the country has already received more than €200 million in compensation from the United States and the European Union for the military assistance provided to Ukraine. The total amount of compensation is expected to exceed 400 million levs (over 200 million euros), and future payments could amount to over 600 million levs (over 300 million euros). Additional compensation of around 300 million euros is also forecast for 2026.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Defence noted that military assistance to Ukraine is part of a consistent policy of support and is in line with the country's strategic interests.
