Canada has imposed sanctions on Russia — 162 individuals and companies are subject to the restrictions
This was announced by the country’s government.
The country is imposing sanctions on vessels belonging to the Russian Federation’s shadow fleet, as well as on its energy, defence and propaganda sectors. Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that air defence systems are already on their way to Ukraine as part of the PURL project.
Canada has already provided Ukraine with $2.8 billion in military aid this year, imposed sanctions on over 3,400 individuals and companies and more than 600 vessels, and extended the UNIFIER training programme for Ukrainian military personnel.
PURL is a mechanism established by the US and NATO that allows allies to fund the procurement of American weapons for Ukraine through joint contributions. Ukraine draws up a list of its requirements for weapons and ammunition, which is agreed at NATO level, after which the procurement takes place at the partners’ expense.
