Cyprus is set to unveil its first monument to the Ukrainian poet and artist Taras Shevchenko. The monument was created by sculptors Oles Sydoruk and Boris Krylov.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Embassy in Cyprus.

It is noted that the installation of the monument was initiated by Serhiy Nizhynskyi, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus. The monument was created by Oles Sydoruk and Boris Krylov — Ukrainian sculptors and members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and the Royal British Society of Sculptors.

The embassy says that the monument’s creation was made possible thanks to the support of the ‘Herts’ Special Forces Regiment.

“The installation of the bust of Taras Shevchenko in Cyprus is a symbol of Ukraine’s spiritual presence on the world stage. The monument is intended to strengthen cultural, spiritual and humanitarian ties between Ukraine and Cyprus, affirming Ukraine’s standing as a European nation with a rich history, culture and an indomitable people,” says Serhiy Nizhynskyi.

The monument is made of granite and bronze, and the commemorative plaque dedicated to Shevchenko was created in collaboration with the Ukrainian foundry ‘SAYAMAT’. The granite plinth features a reproduction of a Ukrainian towel bearing a facsimile of Taras Shevchenko’s signature and a quill pen.
