Canada thrashed Qatar in a match featuring two red cards at the 2026 World Cup
The Canadian national team thrashed Qatar in their second Group B match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match at BC Place in Vancouver ended 6–0.
The Canadians had already found the back of the net three times before half-time. Jonathan David scored a brace, whilst Kyle Larin added another goal.
In the 33rd minute, Qatar were reduced to ten men. Defender Homam Al-Amin was shown a straight red card.
After the break, the referee sent off another player from the Qatari side. Assim Omer Madibo was shown a straight red card for a rough foul on Ismael Koné.
As a result of the collision, Ismael Koné suffered a serious injury and was carried off the pitch on a stretcher.
In the second half, Jesse Marsch’s side scored three more goals. Nathan Saliba opened the scoring. Mohammad Al-Mannai then scored an own goal. Jonathan David sealed the final score in stoppage time, completing his hat-trick.
In the other Group B match of the second round, Switzerland beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 4–1.
After two rounds in Group B, Canada and Switzerland each have four points. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar have one point each.
In the third round, Canada will face Switzerland, whilst Bosnia and Herzegovina will take on Qatar. Both matches will take place on 24 June at 22:00 Kyiv time.
The 2026 World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July in the USA, Mexico and Canada. For the first time, 48 national teams are taking part in the tournament.
