CENTCOM announced the destruction of all Iranian ships in the Gulf of Oman
On Monday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that all 11 Iranian vessels operating in the Gulf of Oman had been destroyed. A statement on the X platform said that two days ago, Iran had 11 ships in the area, but now they are gone. This was reported by The Public with reference to Anadolu.
The command emphasised that Iran had been harassing and attacking international shipping in the Gulf of Oman for decades and stated its intention to continue to protect freedom of navigation. The statement said that these actions had been completed. Iran has not confirmed the losses.
The statement came after US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that nine Iranian naval vessels had been sunk, and on Monday clarified that there were ten. He also said that the Iranian naval headquarters had been largely destroyed.
The naval campaign is part of a joint US-Israeli military operation that began on Saturday. According to available information, several high-ranking Iranian officials were killed in the strikes, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran launched drone and missile strikes on Persian Gulf countries where US military facilities are located.
On Monday, the US also released a video of strikes on Iranian ships in the Gulf of Oman and announced its control over the strait and its intention to ensure the safety of maritime navigation. The released footage shows the explosion of a ship.
