Church holiday on 16 June 2026: who is being honoured and what restrictions apply
On 16 June 2026, Orthodox Christians in Ukraine will commemorate Saint Tikhon of Amphoun according to the new church calendar.
Saint Tikhon lived in the 4th–5th centuries on the island of Cyprus. From childhood, he was raised in the Christian faith, and later became renowned for his piety, charity and the gift of miracle-working.
According to tradition, even in his youth, Tikhon helped the poor. Once, his father instructed him to sell some bread, but the boy gave it away to the needy. When his father became angry, it turned out that the storehouse had, in a strange way, been filled with supplies once more.
Later, Tikhon was elected Bishop of Amaphunt. He preached Christianity, helped the poor, the sick and the elderly, and his home was open to all who needed support.
