Church holiday on 22 June 2026: who is being honoured, and what you can and cannot do
On 22 June, Orthodox Christians commemorate the holy martyr Eusebius, Bishop of Samosata.
The saint lived in the 4th century and was one of the most active defenders of Orthodox doctrine during the spread of Arianism. He headed the See of Samosata and supported Orthodox bishops who were persecuted for their beliefs.
According to tradition, Eusebius was exiled on several occasions, but continued his ministry and helped to preserve church unity. He died a martyr’s death around the year 379.
