‘We will respond in kind’: Zelenskyy sets out conditions for an Easter ceasefire
This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy
A tit-for-tat response and conditions for a ceasefire
The Head of State emphasised that Ukraine clearly understands who it is dealing with, so the ‘zero strikes’ policy depends entirely on the behaviour of the Russian army. The absence of enemy attacks in the air, on land and at sea is the only condition under which the Ukrainian army will not return fire.
A chance for real peace
Zelenskyy noted that Easter is a time of peace, and a pause in hostilities could mark the start of a genuine move towards ending the war. The proposal for a ceasefire has already been conveyed to the Russian side, including the possibility of extending the ‘ceasefire’ beyond the holidays.
The army’s readiness
Despite diplomatic initiatives, the Ukrainian military is prepared for any turn of events. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has already set out a clear plan of action for all units in the event of the enemy breaching the agreements.
Ukraine is taking a step towards peace, but remains fully focused on defence.
