How the match went
Egypt opened the scoring as early as the 5th minute. Mahmoud Saber scored after a follow-up in the penalty area.
Shortly afterwards, Iran had a great chance to equalise. In the 10th minute, the referee awarded a penalty following a foul by Mohamed Abdelmonem. However, Mehdi Taremi was unable to beat goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir, who saved the shot.
Nevertheless, just a few minutes later, the Iranians did manage to level the score. Ramin Rezaeian fired home from a tight angle to make it 1–1.
In first-half stoppage time, Iran found the net for a second time, but following a VAR review, the goal was disallowed for offside.
Neither side scored in the second half.

Who qualified for the knockout stages
A draw was enough for Egypt to finish second in the group and qualify for the World Cup round of 32.
