Former British Prime Minister Sunak to advise Zelensky on Ukraine's economy
This was reported by The Independent, citing documents from an independent adviser on ministerial standards.
According to the publication, Sunak will advise the President of Ukraine on economic reconstruction. He said he was delighted to join the international group and expressed his conviction that Ukraine could become one of the most dynamic economies in Europe.
The advisory board is expected to form a group of experts who will advise both Zelensky and his economic adviser, former Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland.
The publication notes that Sunak's activities are linked to Ukraine's plans to rebuild its energy sector before next winter.
He is reported to have already participated in the first meeting of the council alongside World Bank President Ajay Banga and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development President Odile Renaud-Basso. Representatives from Siemens, BlackRock, Citigroup and ArcelorMittal also took part.
Sunak remains a Member of Parliament for the Richmond and Northallerton constituency. He also holds advisory positions at Goldman Sachs, Microsoft and Anthropic, is a visiting scholar at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, participates in the Bloomberg New Economy Forum and the Blavatnik School of Government, and runs a charity with his wife. According to the register of interests, he donates most of his income from non-parliamentary activities to charity.
On 26 February, the President of Ukraine held the first meeting of the International Advisory Group on Investment and Economic Development in Ukraine, where issues of energy sustainability, preparation for winter and the implementation of investment projects were discussed.
