Erdogan warned of the risk of the war spreading to other countries
The situation in the Middle East is escalating and poses a risk of the war spreading beyond the region. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following a cabinet meeting.
He emphasised that Turkey had previously warned of the possibility of the conflict spreading to other countries.
“We warned that as the war escalates, the flames could spread to other countries. Unfortunately, on the 38th day of the conflict, we continue to share the same concerns,” said Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Turkish President also stressed the need to step up diplomatic efforts to halt hostilities and open a negotiation process.
“If there is even the slightest chance of a ceasefire and opening the way to negotiations, we sincerely wish to seize it. Our desire is for this illegal, senseless and extremely costly war for humanity to end as soon as possible,” he noted.
Separately, Erdogan drew attention to the conflict’s impact on the global economy, particularly the energy sector.
“The Strait of Hormuz is not just a passage; it is a critical route through which 20% of the world’s oil and a significant portion of natural gas are transported. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has a profound impact on the global economy across all sectors — from energy to agriculture, from industry to technology,” said the Turkish president.
