The Prosecutor General's Office has opened proceedings against Maryana Bezuhla under the treason charge
Investigators are looking into whether Bezuhla’s public statements could have harmed the Ukrainian military.
The Office of the Prosecutor General has opened criminal proceedings against MP Mariana Bezuhla under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — treason during a state of emergency.

This was announced by MP Serhiy Taruta.

According to him, this is no longer a matter of political debate, but a question of national security. The investigation is examining whether Bezuhla’s public statements could have harmed the Ukrainian military.

Taruta cited specific examples. In particular, following the dissemination of information about the 72nd Brigade, which was holding Vuhledar:

  • the planned rotation was disrupted;
  • defensive positions were lost.

Furthermore, following statements about the “withdrawal of the brigade from Vuhledar”, he said, Russian troops had already deployed significant forces to that sector within less than a day.

“When public activity leads to casualties among the military, a weakening of defences and the demoralisation of the army — this is no longer about freedom of speech. It is about responsibility,” Taruta noted.

He also reported that, together with MP Fedir Venislavskyi, he had submitted a corresponding appeal.

According to Taruta, the proceedings were initiated following a court ruling that obliged the Prosecutor General’s Office to enter the details into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. A pre-trial investigation is currently underway.
