Heavy downpours and thunderstorms are set to hit Ukraine: a cold snap is on the way following a heatwave with temperatures reaching +38
This was reported by weather forecaster Natalka Didenko and the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre.
On 1 July, hot weather will continue to prevail across Ukraine. According to the forecasters’ prediction, daytime temperatures will range from +29 to +34 degrees, whilst in the south-west they will reach +35 to +38 degrees in places.
No significant rainfall is forecast for most of the country. However, brief showers and thunderstorms are expected in the Volyn, Lviv and Zakarpattia regions. In some areas, hail and gusts of wind of up to 15–20 m/s are possible. As a result, meteorologists have issued a Level I hazard warning (yellow).
In Kyiv, sunny weather with no rain is forecast for 1 July, with temperatures around +33 degrees.
However, the weather situation will begin to change as early as 2 July. According to Nataliia Didenko, a cold atmospheric front will approach Ukraine, initially bringing cooler conditions to the western regions, and by 3–4 July the drop in temperature will affect most regions of the country.
Meteorologists warn that the contrast between the intense heat and the cold front may lead to heavy downpours, thunderstorms and squalls. It is precisely these weather conditions that most often cause localised flooding, falling trees and disruption to transport.
Furthermore, from 1 to 3 July, most regions of Ukraine will remain under an extreme fire danger warning. Ukrainians are urged not to light bonfires and to exercise the utmost caution with open flames.
