On the night of 1 July, the Ukrainian Defence Forces carried out a strike on a Roscosmos facility in the Penza region. Bridges, warehouses and drone control centres in the temporarily occupied territories and in Russia were also targeted.

Units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces have struck a leading enterprise in the field of space, aviation and military instrumentation in the Penza region of Russia.

On the night of 1 July, the ‘Research Institute of Physical Measurements’ JSC in the Penza region of the Russian Federation came under attack.

Hits and smoke were observed on the premises.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces noted that the enterprise is one of the key players in Russia’s space, aviation and military instrument manufacturing sector. It is part of the ‘Russian Space Systems’ holding company, which is a subsidiary of the state corporation ‘Roscosmos’.

The plant manufactures sensors for Iskander cruise and ballistic missiles, ‘Kalibr’ and Kh-101 cruise and ballistic missiles, components for the on-board systems of the Su-34, Su-35 and Tu-95MS aircraft, as well as equipment for military space programmes, in particular reconnaissance satellites.

The extent of the damage is currently being assessed.

In addition, the Defence Forces struck a road bridge across the Malyi Kalchik River in the Granitne district of Donetsk Oblast, a railway bridge across the Tepla River in the Nyzhnoteple district of Luhansk Oblast, and a logistics crossing in the Novoocheretuvate district of Donetsk Oblast.

Russian troops use these facilities to transport personnel, weapons, ammunition and logistical supplies.

A fuel and lubricants depot in Melitopol and three logistics depots supplying Russian troops in the areas of Krupka in the Kursk Oblast of the Russian Federation, Rivnopillia in the Donetsk Oblast and Novoyegorivka in the Kharkiv Oblast were also targeted.

In addition, five drone control centres were struck in the areas of Grozove and Zaliznychne in the Zaporizhzhia region, as well as in Udachne, Novooleksandrivka and Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region.
