Hegset stated that the US is prepared to take action against Iran
This was reported by Reuters, citing a statement by US Defence Secretary Pete Haegset.
The Pentagon has stated its readiness to act
Commenting on the prospects for talks between Washington and Tehran, the Pentagon chief emphasised that the US military has sufficient capabilities to conduct operations if necessary. According to him, the US is in a strong position in terms of both available resources and weapons stockpiles.
“Our ability to return to action, should it be necessary, is more than sufficient,” said Hegset.
The US has assured that it has not turned its back on Asia
Speaking at one of Asia’s largest security forums, the US Secretary of Defence stated that the situation surrounding Iran has not affected American commitments in the Asia-Pacific region. According to Hegset, the United States continues to expand the capabilities of its defence industrial base and increase ammunition production. He emphasised that Washington is capable of simultaneously fulfilling its tasks across various fronts.
Trump is counting on a diplomatic solution
The Pentagon chief noted that US President Donald Trump remains a supporter of the negotiation process and is seeking to reach agreements with Tehran. According to Hegset, the aim of a potential deal is to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons. The statement came against the backdrop of talks between US and Iranian representatives, who are attempting to overcome key differences that are currently preventing an agreement from being reached.
