The President of Honduras, Nasri Asfour, has stated that his country is interested in Ukrainian drones
Honduras plans to purchase Ukrainian drones for border control and to combat drug trafficking. This was announced by the country’s president, Nasri Asfura, following a visit to Kyiv and a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The Office of the President of Ukraine also reported on the talks between the presidents of Ukraine and Honduras.

Honduran President Nasri Asfour stated that his country is interested in Ukrainian drones to enhance security and border control.

According to him, drones could help Honduras monitor remote areas, detect illegal activity and combat organised crime.

“We are talking about drones to protect our borders, to control them effectively and to combat organised crime using high-tech equipment,” said Asfour.

How Ukraine can help Honduras

Asfura stated that Ukraine could provide significant assistance to Honduras in the field of security thanks to the technologies it has developed during the war.

He specifically mentioned the fight against drug trafficking, which he described as a matter of national security for his country.

According to the President of Honduras, Ukrainian drones can be used not only for border security but also in civilian sectors, particularly in agriculture.

What Zelenskyy said

During his meeting with Asfura, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready to assist Honduras on matters relating to drone technology.

According to the Office of the President, the parties discussed the development of bilateral relations, the agricultural sector, economic cooperation, digitalisation, defence technologies and Ukraine’s expertise in the field of drones.

Why Honduras needs drones

For years, Honduras has remained one of the transit routes for cocaine shipments from South America to the US.

The country also faces high levels of violence, organised crime and challenges in controlling remote border areas.

The homicide rate in Honduras stands at around 24 per 100,000 people. This is almost four times higher than the global average.

Honduras’s potential purchase of Ukrainian drones shows that Ukrainian technology is attracting increasing interest not only from military partners in Europe, but also from countries in other regions.

During the full-scale war, Ukraine has significantly developed the production and combat use of drones, and is now gradually expanding international cooperation in this field.

Nasri Asfura visited Kyiv last week and held talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to the Office of the President, Asfura took office as President of Honduras in January 2026. During the meeting in Kyiv, he expressed his country’s interest in Ukrainian defence technologies and the drone sector.

Serhiy Vlasenko, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada’s Temporary Investigative Commission on Defence and Anti-Corruption, has criticised the work of the NABU and the SAP. In his view, anti-corruption bodies are increasingly acting as media organisations rather than as bodies that should be quietly gathering evidence within the framework of criminal proceedings.
