Bill Pulte, the acting director of US National Intelligence, who was recently appointed by Donald Trump, has begun sacking staff on a massive scale in his new role.

CNN reports this, citing sources.

Previously, sources had said that Pulte was planning to cut around a hundred jobs in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. When he first took up the post, he requested a list ranking all staff members.

Sources claim that the National Counter-Terrorism Centre and the National Counter-Intelligence and Security Centre will be hardest hit by the job cuts.

Trump appointed Pulte to the post in early June. Prior to this, he was director of the US Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) — despite his new role, Pulte retained his position as head of the FHFA and chairman of the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Pulte had no previous experience in intelligence.

His predecessor, Tulsi Gabbard, resigned in May, citing her husband’s illness as the reason for her decision.

Following the appointment, Trump told journalists that he wanted Pulte to downsize the office’s staff. Trump later called on the Senate to vote in favour of the new Director of National Intelligence — Jay Clayton, the US Attorney for the Southern District.

Serhiy Vlasenko, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada’s Temporary Investigative Commission on Defence and Anti-Corruption, has criticised the work of the NABU and the SAP. In his view, anti-corruption bodies are increasingly acting as media organisations rather than as bodies that should be quietly gathering evidence within the framework of criminal proceedings.

Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andriy Melnyk, has stated that Kyiv may reconsider its approach if the UN Security Council continues to fail to adopt resolutions to halt Russian aggression. According to the diplomat, Ukraine has been calling on the international community for over a year to support a full and unconditional ceasefire, but these initiatives have so far failed to yield results.
