Japan has provided the State Emergency Service with armoured vehicles and demining equipment
Japan has provided the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) with armoured vehicles, transport vehicles and protective equipment for sappers. This was announced by Bogdan Drapiaty, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
The equipment is intended to make the work of pyrotechnicians safer, more mobile and more effective during demining operations. The aid package includes:
- two JURA armoured operational pyrotechnic vehicles;
- two Kozak-5 light armoured pyrotechnic vehicles;
- minibuses with a capacity of up to 30 passengers — 12 units;
- protective equipment kits (body armour),
- specially designed for female employees — 100 sets.
It is important to note that all equipment and gear are manufactured or assembled in Ukraine, which also supports the state programme "Made in Ukraine".
Masashi Nakagome, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, emphasised that Japan remains a consistent partner of Ukraine, which defends democratic values and principles of international order. According to him, the Japanese government is investing in the development of human capital, technology and innovation, as well as providing Ukraine with diplomatic, financial and humanitarian support.
Bogdan Drapiaty emphasised that the assistance of partners contributes to the rapid development of Ukraine's capabilities in the field of humanitarian demining. He separately thanked the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has long supported projects related to civil security and the prevention of humanitarian and man-made disasters.
The Deputy Minister also expressed his gratitude to the Japanese people for their support of Ukraine, particularly during the winter of 2025–2026, when the country was experiencing massive Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure. According to him, energy equipment, financial and humanitarian assistance from partners, including Japan, helped Ukraine get through this period.
The ceremony also honoured Nazomu Yamashita, First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Ukraine, who is completing his diplomatic mission. Since 2023, the diplomat has been actively working to develop the Ukrainian-Japanese partnership, making a significant contribution to cooperation between the two countries.
"From the very beginning of Russia's aggression against Ukraine in 2014, and especially after the start of full-scale war in 2022, Japan has clearly sided with freedom and international law — and therefore with Ukraine," emphasised Bohdan Drapyaty.
