In May, the Defence Forces recaptured almost 100 square kilometres of territory — Syrskyi
This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, following the monthly briefing.
He emphasised that, despite constant pressure from the occupiers, Ukrainian troops continue to maintain the initiative in certain sections of the front. At the same time, the overall situation on the front line remains complex and dynamic: the number of combat engagements has increased significantly, and the most intense fighting is currently taking place in the Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka and Huliaipole sectors.
In addition to advancing on the front line, Ukrainian troops inflicted heavy losses on the enemy in the rear in May.
“Unmanned aerial vehicle units struck over 88,000 targets and, according to estimates by the Unmanned Systems Forces Command, neutralised over 30,500 Russian servicemen, while Front and Middle systems continued to systematically destroy Russian headquarters and arsenals,” the Commander-in-Chief noted.
Long-range weapons were actively deployed throughout the month, striking 111 strategic targets on Russian territory. The strikes targeted enterprises of the military-industrial complex, as well as fuel and energy infrastructure facilities supplying the occupying army. According to the command’s estimates, these attacks alone caused the Russian Federation direct and indirect economic losses amounting to approximately $1.058 billion.
As a reminder, earlier the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, called for the rational use of resources due to a shortage of missiles for air defence.
