Among the judges who have been served with a notice of suspicion by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine is the father of Bogdan Prokopaneko, a current NABU detective. On the eve of being served with the notice, the law enforcement officer received an apartment in Kyiv as a gift from a relative.

Lawyer Tetiana Kozachenko mentioned this on her Facebook page.

“I looked at the biographies of these judges, in particular that of retired judge Oleksandr Prokopenko, who stated that his son works as a detective in the main detective unit of the NABU. The first document I came across was Bogdan Prokopenko’s declaration that four days ago he received an apartment and a parking space as a GIFT from Oleksandr Prokopenko – his father.

AND NOW I WILL EXPLAIN:

- On Saturday, 16 May 2026, the father (a former Supreme Court judge) registers the flat and parking space in the name of his son – a NABU detective.

- On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, NABU served his father with a notice of suspicion of a particularly serious corruption offence,” notes Kozachenko, adding that the detective had previously lived in this flat with his wife rent-free for years and had declared this.

In her view, such facts should, at the very least, serve as grounds for an internal investigation by NABU.

“At the very least, this detective must undergo an internal investigation and a polygraph test to determine

1. whether he was aware of the possibility of his father being served with a notice of suspicion

2. whether he had any conversations with his father on this matter

3. whether he had any conversations with his wife Olena Prokopenko, who is also (lo and behold!) a NABU detective and lives in this flat, as stated in their declarations,” the post reads.

The lawyer is convinced that there are all the signs that Bohdan Prokopenko may have used his official position and restricted-access information for his own benefit.

“Because when I read that ‘someone’ among the suspects ‘fled’ right on the eve of the charges being served, or that the suspects’ assets are also being moved out ‘on the eve’, when journalists are present right at the scene of the charges being served—which is simply impossible without a leak of information, and the custodians of this information are exclusively NABU and the SAPO— I am no longer concerned with sighs of ‘oh, but who leaked the information?’. And who is it?”, Tetyana Kozachenko exclaims indignantly.

As previously reported by ThePublic, NABU and the SAPO announced the expansion of the circle of suspects in the Supreme Court corruption case. Three serving Supreme Court judges and one retired Supreme Court judge have been served with new charges. The anti-corruption authorities stated that these individuals, whilst serving as judges of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court, received unlawful benefits for passing a ruling in the interests of the owner of the “Finance and Credit” group.

The NABU has commented on the situation regarding a NABU detective receiving real estate as a gift from his father, who is a suspect in a corruption case involving the Supreme Court.

The employee in question was not a member of the investigative team probing the criminal proceedings regarding corruption in the Supreme Court and did not have access to the relevant case materials. An internal investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances surrounding the transfer of ownership of the property. Additionally, on the day the notice of suspicion was issued, the NABU Director signed a decision to seize the aforementioned property, which has been forwarded for execution. The Bureau also filed a corresponding motion with the court to have the property seized.
