Iran and Israel exchanged missile strikes following the breakdown of the ceasefire
On the evening of 7 June, Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on Israel following an Israeli strike on Hezbollah in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
According to the Times of Israel, two Iranian ballistic missiles were intercepted during the first attack following the ceasefire announcement on 8 April. It was also reported that an air raid alert was issued in northern Israel due to a new missile attack.
Following this, the Israel Defence Forces announced strikes on military targets in western and central Iran. The IDF stated that the operation was carried out a few hours after the launch of Iranian missiles towards the north of the country.
Local media reported that the sounds of explosions were heard in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan. According to the Israeli military, the air force also struck several targets at a petrochemical complex in the Mahshahr area.
The day before, US President Donald Trump stated that he planned to urge Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from any retaliatory measures in response to the missile attacks.
Later that morning, Iran again launched rockets towards Israel. According to the military, all the rockets were intercepted. Emergency services reported that debris from one of the rockets damaged several houses in a settlement on the West Bank of the Jordan River. No reports of casualties have been received.
