Iran has stated that it could switch to full-scale defence at any moment due to Israel’s breach of the ceasefire. This was announced by a senior security official.

On Wednesday, a senior Iranian official told Press TV that the country could switch to full-scale defence at any moment due to Israel’s violation of the fragile and temporary ceasefire.

According to him, the world is watching as Israel destabilises the ceasefire agreement reached earlier that day. He also noted that Israel is raising the stakes of this agreement for the US by violating the truce whilst simultaneously carrying out strikes on Lebanon and Iran.

The spokesperson called on mediating countries to intervene immediately, stating that the time had come to “put this aggressive regime in its place”.

He added that if the ceasefire were to break down, Israel would bear responsibility for it, and stressed that Iran would “punish the aggressor”.

He also warned that the current period of relative easing of tensions, which followed the controlled resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, would quickly come to an end in the event of further violations.

Earlier on Wednesday, Iran declared a “historic victory” following a 40-day war against the US and Israel and announced that Washington had agreed to Iran’s ten-point proposal.

One of the points of this proposal calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities by the US and Israel on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

However, within hours of the ceasefire being announced, Israel launched strikes on several areas of Lebanon, including the capital Beirut. According to reports, hundreds of civilians have been killed.

It is reported that Israel carried out at least 100 air strikes in less than 10 minutes across various parts of the country. Local media report that at least 88 people were killed in Beirut alone.

These strikes are being described as the largest-scale bombing of Lebanon by Israel since the start of the new wave of aggression in early March, which took place in parallel with the war against Iran.
