A historic record: Shakhtar are enjoying their most prolific season in European competition
This was announced by the official press office of FC Shakhtar.
Record number of matches
Thanks to their successful progress through the Conference League knockout stages, Shakhtar have secured at least two more matches. These fixtures will be the team’s 19th and 20th of the current European campaign.
Figures from previous years:
-
2015/16 season: 18 matches (reaching the Europa League semi-finals);
-
2008/09 season: 17 matches (winning season in the UEFA Cup).
Thus, the current campaign has officially become the longest in the club’s European history.
Goalscoring record: 2009 record surpassed
Aside from the number of matches, the ‘Orange and Blacks’ are also demonstrating exceptional scoring form. The record set in the triumphant 2009 season, when the team scored 30 goals, has finally been left behind.
To date, Shakhtar’s players have already scored 33 goals against their opponents. Given that the semi-finals lie ahead, this record could well be improved upon.
