The EС has been stripped of its account on X after being fined €120 million
e EU regulator imposed a €120 million fine on X — the first of its kind under the Digital Services Act (DSA). This was reported by The Public with reference to Politico. The reasons were a confusing ‘blue tick’ system, an opaque advertising archive, and a refusal to give researchers access to public data.
In response to the fine, X blocked the European Commission's advertising account — the body temporarily lost access to the advertising office and the ability to purchase and track advertising on the platform.
This decision sent a clear signal: the European Commission is serious about ensuring that technology platforms comply with transparency and accountability standards. At the same time, this is the first case where a fine under the DSA has led to the actual blocking of advertising activities on a major social network.
X now has 60 days to propose a plan to remedy the violations and 90 days to implement it. Otherwise, the platform faces new sanctions.
