The Cabinet of Ministers has approved new rules for funding water projects in rural areas
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved procedures for the use of budget funds to protect rural settlements and agricultural land from the harmful effects of water. The government has also updated the rules governing the funding of centralised water supply systems for villages that rely on water supplied from external sources.

This was announced by Taras Melnychuk, the government’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the procedure for using funds allocated in the state budget to protect rural settlements and agricultural land from the harmful effects of water.

These funds will also be directed towards prioritising the provision of centralised water supply to rural settlements.

This involves funding under the budget programme “Protection of rural settlements and agricultural land from the harmful effects of water and the priority provision of centralised water supply to rural settlements”.

The funds may be used for public investment projects included in the sectoral project portfolio of public investments.

Funding is also provided for measures to protect villages and agricultural land from the harmful effects of water and for the centralised water supply to villages that rely on imported water.

This decision is important for rural communities as it establishes a mechanism for funding works to protect against flooding and to bring centralised water supply to villages that have hitherto depended on imported water.

Separately, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the procedure for using funds from the State Water Management Development Fund.

Under this procedure, the fund’s money may be directed towards the operation of the water management complex, the construction and reconstruction of land reclamation systems, the modernisation and development of water management, as well as the protection of settlements and agricultural land from the harmful effects of water.

At the same time, the government has repealed three previous Cabinet of Ministers resolutions: No. 137 of 23 February 2011, No. 205 of 29 March 2017, and No. 401 of 23 May 2018.

As reported by ThePublic, the Budget Committee has backed payments to military personnel from the military levy
