Chinese special forces demonstrated training in a "decapitation" strike, with the scenario linked to Taiwan
The Chinese military conducted exercises based on a scenario of a so-called "decapitation" strike, which, according to observers, could simulate an attack on Taiwan's leadership. Footage of the exercises was shown on the military channel of China Central Television, Asia.nikkei reports. The exact location, time and names of the units were not disclosed.
The footage shows a military drone locating a building with targets, after which a special forces group conducts a night-time assault. According to the report, the fighters used army crossbows to quietly pass by the security posts. There were four "simulated terrorists," and the entire operation lasted less than two minutes.
Experts link the appearance of such a story to the recent US operation in Venezuela, after which Washington announced the capture of Nicolas Maduro. Against this backdrop, Beijing may be signalling that it is also capable of acting quickly and precisely, as well as deterring possible US intervention in the region amid disputes over Taiwan and the South China Sea.
The material is also perceived as an element of psychological pressure on the administration of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te. At the end of 2025, Chinese forces conducted large-scale exercises around the island, and the Chinese media mentioned rehearsals of simulated strikes on key targets.
This is not the first such signal from the PRC. In July 2015, CCTV showed exercises at a training ground in Inner Mongolia, where the scenery was strikingly similar to the Taiwanese presidential administration building.
