European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen posted photos on their social media accounts from their visit to a damaged energy facility during their stay in Kyiv.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Russia is using energy infrastructure as a tool of pressure, especially during the winter. According to her, the EU is helping Ukraine maintain its energy system and respond to the consequences of the attacks. She said that since the beginning of the war, the European Union has provided Ukraine with €3 billion in energy support and delivered 11,000 generators.
European Council President António Costa said that the EU is providing Ukraine with assistance to restore its energy infrastructure, including network repairs, generation restoration and investments in decentralised energy sources.
The visit by European leaders took place against the backdrop of Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the context of the war.
