Lukashenko has made a new statement regarding Belarus’s involvement in the war
This was reported by Nenka Info.
Lukashenko has set a condition for Minsk to change its position
During a public address, Lukashenko stated that the Belarusian army is not participating in the war against Ukraine and will not be involved in hostilities under the current circumstances.
“Belarusian soldiers have not fought and will not fight in Ukraine,” he said.
At the same time, the Belarusian leader emphasised that the situation could change in the event of an attack on the country’s territory. According to him, if Belarus comes under military attack from any direction, the course of events could take a different turn. However, he did not specify what steps might be taken or whom Minsk considers a potential source of threat.
Belarus remains an ally of Russia
Following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Belarusian territory was used by Russian troops to launch an offensive on Kyiv, fire missiles, deploy military equipment and conduct joint exercises. Despite this, the Belarusian authorities have repeatedly stated that the Belarusian military did not take part directly in combat operations on Ukrainian territory. In recent months, the Belarusian authorities have also reported on the so-called selective mobilisation of reservists, the rearmament of the army and measures to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities.
Ukraine continues to monitor the situation at the border
Ukrainian border guards and military intelligence have previously stated on multiple occasions that there are currently no signs of a strike force being formed on the border with Belarus. At the same time, Ukrainian security forces continue to monitor the situation in the north and track any potential changes in the security situation.
