Marco Rubio assessed the prospects for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia

The US has not seen any results from previous contacts
Rubio told journalists this during a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Sweden. According to him, Washington agreed to take part in the talks because it remains a party with which both Ukraine and Russia are willing to engage.
“They were not fruitful, unfortunately,” the Secretary of State noted, commenting on the previous talks.
Rubio also dismissed claims that the US had allegedly put pressure on Kyiv during diplomatic consultations.
“The stories being circulated that we forced the Ukrainians to take one position or another are not true,” he emphasised.
Washington is ready to return to the negotiating table
At the same time, the head of US diplomacy stated that the US is not abandoning its role as a mediator. According to Rubio, if an opportunity arises to organise talks that stand a chance of yielding practical results, Washington is ready to rejoin the process. He added that the US side sees no point in holding numerous meetings without concrete outcomes. In the Secretary of State’s view, the war can only be ended through negotiations, not through a military victory by one of the parties.
