The US Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Harvard University, accusing the institution of violating the civil rights of Jewish students. The government claims that the university failed to provide them with adequate protection during the protests that followed the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 and the subsequent war in Gaza.

Bloomberg reports that

the US Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Harvard University in a federal court in Boston. This marks yet another move by the Donald Trump administration against one of America’s most prestigious universities.

In the lawsuit, the government alleges that Harvard violated the civil rights of Jewish students. According to the Department of Justice, the university failed to protect them from alleged anti-Semitism during protests on campus.

This refers to the protests that began following the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 and the subsequent war in Gaza.

The lawsuit was filed on Friday in a federal court in Boston.

A Harvard spokesperson did not immediately provide Bloomberg with a comment in response to a request.
