A series of shooting incidents has taken place in central Israel, which the police are treating as a possible terrorist attack. One person has been killed and several others injured

This is according to Reuters.

The shooting took place near the occupied West Bank of the River Jordan. According to Israeli law enforcement officials, the attacker opened fire in several locations, after which large numbers of police and military personnel arrived at the scene. A 35-year-old man was killed in the attack. Five other people were injured, two of whom are in a serious condition. The Israeli ambulance service reported that the attack appeared to have been a drive-by shooting.

What is known about the attacker

According to police, the suspect was an Israeli Arab from the town of Tayibe. He was shot dead, and a firearm was found at the scene. Israeli media are also reporting the death of a second possible attacker. Law enforcement officers have located a vehicle believed to have been used in the attack. A search operation in the area is ongoing, and the public has been urged to remain vigilant.

Reaction following the shooting

The attack took place near the Palestinian town of Qalqilya. The Hamas group welcomed the attack but did not claim responsibility. Following the incident, the Israeli military has stepped up its presence in the area and near neighbouring settlements in the West Bank. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was briefed on the situation. Following the attack, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich issued a strongly worded statement on domestic security issues.
