MP Stepan Kubiv has died
This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada.
Stepan Kubiv, a member of the European Solidarity party, was a member of the Rada’s Committee on Economic Development. Prior to the current parliamentary term, he served as a member of parliament for two further terms.
From 2016 to 2019, he served as First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economic Development and Trade, and in 2014 he headed the National Bank. During the Euromaidan protests, he was the commander of the Trade Union House on Independence Square in Kyiv, which had been occupied by protesters.
“This is a great loss for the European Solidarity team. Stepan Kubiv was not only a colleague in parliament but also a true comrade-in-arms in the struggle for the Ukrainian state, for national memory, and for Ukraine’s European future. He lived through the Maidan protests and the difficult years of war, working to strengthen the Ukrainian economy and secure international support for our state. He was always principled, calm, responsible and devoted to Ukraine,” the European Solidarity party wrote.
The cause of the MP’s death is as yet unknown.
